Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway

Brooklyn, NY

The Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway is envisioned as a safe, landscaped, off-street route (or protected on-street route) along Brooklyn's waterfront. SSE analyzed the feasibility of various scenarios for modifying waterfront streets to accommodate the route of the greenway. SSE determined a variety of possible configurations for the route based on available right-of-way for the path, landscaped areas, sidewalks, streets, and parking. SSE’s analysis of potential bikeway designs in the Greenpoint and Williamsburg neighborhoods was instrumental in the selection and design of the final, now-implemented greenway in these areas. The fourteen-mile greenway will provide a critical connection between numerous waterfront communities, improving access to the waterfront, improved quality of life, healthier lifestyles, more diverse transportation options, and increased economic development. SSE’s analysis included an innovative design for a two-way on-street cycle track, a version of which the City implemented.
