Planning + Urban Design

Urban Planning + Design

Improving the movement of vehicles and people.

Whether it's an urban site with traffic and access limitations or a suburb that needs to manage growth, SSE creates plans that maximize efficiencies, accommodate future demands and bolster a sense of community. We improve accessibility for pedestrians and bicyclists, and encourage public transportation. Easy-to-understand maps and wayfinding signage encourage the fluid movement of people and vehicles. School safety improvements and education programs encourage students to walk or bike to school, and help save lives.

SSE uses public outreach tools such as design charrettes and town hall-style meetings to develop community-lead plans and designs on controversial projects. SSE often acts as a liaison between agencies and community groups, helping to move tough projects forward. SSE planners are also experts in the New York City environmental review process, having lead dozens of Environmental Assessment Statements and assisted in preparing complex Environmental Impact Statements.
