SSE’s construction related services include: Resident Engineering Inspection Services, Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT), Special Permitting, and Interagency Coordination.
Resident Engineering Inspection Services (REI)
Our REI staff offers excellent experience and skills and has successfully completed assignments for the construction of sidewalks, curbs, ramps and the reconstruction of roadways, bridges, water mains, sewers, and railroad facilities in New York City and New Jersey. Our Construction Inspection Staff is comprised of licensed Resident Engineers, Office Engineers and experienced Inspectors who have excellent track record with various City agencies and other clients. SSE has performed engineering inspection and construction management services for a multitude of construction projects of diverse scope and magnitude. Our Engineers and Inspectors have demonstrated their abilities in completing complex infrastructure projects and to the entire satisfaction of our clients. SSE approaches construction projects in holistic way with utmost importance given to safety, thorough record keeping/documentation, cost control, quality control, contract enforcement, and effective communication amongst various stakeholders.
As a firm, SSE has acquired vast experience with NYCDDC, Con Edison, NYCDOT, NJDOT, as well as other agencies.
Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) and Pedestrians (MPP)
SSE is regarded as a leading firm in the City on Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) design and implementation. We provide timely and cost-effective solutions to complex infrastructure construction. SSE plans MPT programs with local communities and provides media relations services and traffic enforcement, which are key elements of many projects.
SSE authored the “NYCDOT – Approved Traffic Control Manual” which serves as the basis for MPT design on New York City streets. SSE also prepared the Port Authority’s manual for work on LaGuardia Airport’s roadways. Several of SSE’s staff members have undergone advanced level American Traffic Safety Service Association (ATSSA) certifications in MPT planning and safety. All of them are experienced and skilled in implementing complex MPT plans on major highways and local streets.
Special Permitting
SSE coordinates street closings and acquires necessary permits while keeping surrounding residents and businesses updated on any impacts. Our familiarity with city and state agencies facilitates the permitting process during construction projects for major public utilities, institutions and developers.
Interagency Coordination
SSE’s experience with encouraging and facilitating community, business, elected officials and advisory agency involvement in project development is extensive. We provide effective community relations for projects that require consensus from various groups, supplying them with the appropriate information needed to encourage feedback, which is then integrated into our projects. The firm currently works with many New York media outlets and has ongoing relationships with print, radio and television companies. We offer the most efficient means of disseminating transportation information to the public and are unmatched in translating technical engineering information to the public and decision makers. In this capacity, we prevent and resolve emergency situations or anticipated controversies. “Brushfires”, such as the current one among area merchants triggered by the Second Avenue Subway groundbreaking, are areas where SSE can step in quickly and effectively, if asked.
